Big Mac - Happy to have found his forever home!

UPDATE!  Devestating News!! We lost Big Mac to Colon Cancer on
April 7, 2007.  Rest In Peace Big Fella.  We miss you so much!  Special thanks to Mississippi State Veterinary College who did everything they could to try and save him.  The final vet bill was over $6500.  :-(

Adopt Or Foster From An Animal Shelter.

It's one of the most
 rewarding experiences life can offer.

I met Max when I picked him at Tampa Bay GSD Rescue.  He was to be with us for a couple months as a foster while he underwent Heartworm treatment.  Poor baby had been passed around and then finally turned in to Animal Services for chasing horses.  GSD Rescue saved him from being put down and then discovered that in addition to the heartworm, he had a multiple indigestible objects in his intestines and was infested with worms & Coccidia.

Meet Big Mac
formerly known as
Max the Rescue Dog

Despite all his health problems, he met me with kisses and was delighted to jump into my car and go home with me.  Needless to say, we fell in love with one another almost immediately.  Such a big calm dog!  Nothing seems to rattle him.  At 107 pounds, he is rock solid, physically and temperment-wise and is now healthy as a horse, thanks to nearly $1700 in DISCOUNTED veterinary care!  (I imagine this is the real reason he was passed around.)

Like most rescue dogs, he is so very appreciative of all that we've done for him.  He is totally devoted and so anxious to please!  He gets along well our  other dogs and with every single dog he has ever encountered.  Like I said - rock solid temperment!

We are blessed to have found him.  Since Max and Maxi sound so much alike, we decided to re-name him Big Mac.  (Which, by the way, is his favorite treat - hold the onions, please!)

Big Mac - one BIG happy dog! Big Mac smiles now more than
any dog I've ever met.

Big Mac earned his Canine Good Citizen title and worked as a Certified Therapy Dog before his death in April 2007 of cancer.  He stole a piece of my heart when he left and will forever be my special boy.

More information on Heartworm Treatment and the rest of Mac's original medical trials and tribulations available on his original rescue page Max the Rescue Dog.

I encourage everyone to PLEASE look into fostering an animal in need from your local shelter.  It has been the most rewarding experience of my life.  To see a companion animal learn to trust again, to love again, after being neglected, abused, or simply unloved, is the most incredible sight.  Open your homes and hearts and you will be rewarded ten-fold, I promise.
